If you run a small business in Southwest Florida, chances are you’re working on the fly. You’re in your car, on a job site, in between client calls, and you need to get a thought out fast. So you use Siri or Google Assistant, and then your phone decides to take creative liberties with what you actually said.
I get it. Because Siri almost got me fired from my own business.
When Voice-to-Text Goes Wrong (And It Will)
Here’s what happened. I was texting a client and said, “I’ll meet you in 15 at the Dunkin on the corner.” What my client received was that I was drunk in a corner. Not great.
It gets worse. I told another client, “I have two envelopes for you.” Siri heard something involving lips. I will not repeat it here. And then there was the time I said, “I’m looking forward to working together,” which apparently came out as “twerking.” There is no professional context where that is OK.
As a marketing agency owner serving small businesses in Fort Myers and across Southwest Florida, my reputation is everything. I needed a better solution.
What I Was Looking For
I didn’t just want something that could hear me. I wanted something that actually understood context, the way a smart assistant would. Something that could keep up with me while I’m building a website, managing a client’s Google Business Profile, or putting together a marketing strategy, and not turn my words into a liability.
I also needed it to work across devices. I’m on my desktop, my phone, back to my desktop. A solution that only worked in one place wasn’t going to cut it.
What I Found: Wispr Flow
After some searching I landed on Wispr Flow, and it’s become a regular part of my workflow. Here’s why it works where Siri doesn’t:
- Works inside any app that uses text — just set it up as a keyboard
- You can train it in your own style so it learns how you talk and what you mean
- It understands context, not just words
- Cleans up punctuation automatically
- Removes the um’s and uh’s before anything goes out
- Works across both desktop and mobile on a connected account
I did the free trial, and when it ended I purchased it. That’s the honest review right there.
What Else Is New at Flamingo Creative
Since we’re here and I’ve got your attention, I’ve also been building out some new AI-powered services for my clients here in Southwest Florida.
I added an AI-powered Google Business Profile manager that keeps GBPs active and optimized automatically, posting updates, responding to reviews, flagging missing information, and tracking visibility changes so we can see how your profile is performing in both traditional search and AI search results. If your business isn’t showing up in the local map pack, this is part of how we fix that.
I’ve also added AI voice agents that can handle inbound calls, answer questions, and book appointments. If you call Flamingo Creative and don’t reach me directly, you might get to speak to Mingo, my AI voice assistant. I’ll be honest, I briefly considered giving her the voice of Burt Reynolds. But I went with a woman’s voice because it just fits the name better. She’s friendly, she’s smart, and she’s all business.
